The latest study and research news from the University of Lincoln
Budding journalist Darren Moss has been rubbing shoulders with the stars of BBC’s Top Gear after landing his dream placement with the show.
Darren, who is a final year student in the Lincoln School of Journalism, is on track for a sterling career having spent the last two weeks impressing bosses of the hit show, which is watched by millions around the world.
It is his long term ambition to write for an automotive publication. Darren says it took a lot of determination to secure a much sought after placement with the show’s web team who work closely with presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.
He said: ‘The Top Gear group is a close-knit team and it’s really hard to get in with them. I’d built up contacts at the Top Gear magazine over two years, and had to start again when the editor left.
‘I learnt so much in the two weeks I was there – the main thing being how good the presenters are and how much goes on behind the scenes. For example, the website has its own team and there’s a magazine team of really accomplished writers.
‘I would love to work for the magazine or the website, which I really enjoyed. It’s been my dream for so long and if you’re working towards something you want that much it is possible to achieve. It just takes time and hard work.’
